Paint the Park with Tony Bianco

The Art Centre and Arowhon Pines Resort are delighted to be welcoming Tony Bianco to the Park this summer, who will be running a series of art workshops at both Arowhon Pines Resort and the Art Centre throughout the season. Tony has quickly established himself as a leading Canadian landscape painter: his series “Portrait of Canada” – which consists of 120 paintings depicting the different National Parks across the country – has been exhibited in a number of museums and galleries across Canada, and has received much critical acclaim. This series of paintings has also been published in the book, Landmarks, which includes journal entries and short stories, written by the artist himself.

Tony’s talents have also been recognized by the Royal Canadian Mint, who has commissioned him to design a number of coins, including the Canadian millennium two-dollar coin and, more recently, two hologram Olympic coins for the 2010 Olympic games. Tony has been a featured artist at the Algonquin Art Centre since its opening in 2005 and has published books and articles about painting in Canada.

In addition to being one of Canada’s leading landscape artists, Tony is also an experienced art instructor. For the last twenty years, Tony has offered courses in acrylics, oils, watercolours, and pastels. He has taught classes at the Haliburton School for the Arts, the East Central Ontario Art Association, and has taught classes in Tuscany, Italy.

This year, he’s bringing his talents to Algonquin Park, where he’ll run a series of art workshops, which range from one day to three day courses and have been designed for both advanced painters and beginners. Tony will teach the fundamental principles of painting—shape, value, and colour – while adapting these principals to the student’s own individual expressions. He will teach, too, how to interact with one’s surroundings by painting on site and seeing the potential in the Algonquin landscape.

Some workshops will be held at beautiful Arowhon Pines – a luxurious resort in Algonquin Park – where participants can enjoy fine dining and number of recreational facilities as part of the workshop package (for details, see Workshop #1 and #2 below). He will also teach one day courses at the Algonquin Art Centre, one of the leading landscape and wildlife galleries in all of Canada and located right in the middle of Algonquin Park (see Workshop # 3 below).
